Football, a game that galvanizes the most passionate people into a cohesive unit called ‘fans’. Football fans are a different breed. There are no gentlemen in this game, there are no moments of stillness or break in here. What you get is a period of 90 minutes full of passion and emotions. When it comes to club football the passion increases many folds. There are a number of football leagues in the world; but, when it comes to the English football’s Premier League, it’s something else.

Premier League has been at the summit of footballing world for many years; be it for the ‘average attendance’ or the ‘worldwide reach’ or simply the quality of football. From the arch-rivalries among certain clubs to the brutal derbies, the history of the premier league has been a colorful one. In this article, I would like to draw your attention to the most bizarre premier league scorelines and to the games that stand out and leave their imprints on our collective consciousness.

    Portsmouth vs Reading 7-4 (29 September 2007)

    A day to forget for Reading fans. Portsmouth netted seven times at regular intervals to make sure the three points are in the bag in a game that saw two goals get scored even after the mark of 90 minutes. A game that holds the record for most number of goals scored in a game still haunts the memory of reading fans. But Reading fans can rejoice the fact that Portsmouth is now a tier 3 team while Reading reside in tier 2 of the English football.

    Tottenham Hotspur vs Wigan Athletic 9-1 (22 November 2009)

    Jermain Defoe, the man of every season. He scored 5 times in this historic game that saw many teary eyed Wigan fans leaving the stadium early. Tottenham finished in the top 4 beating Manchester city to a champions league spot. Tottenham also matched the record of 'the most number of goals scored by a team in a PL match' which was previously held by Man U alone.

    Norwich City vs Liverpool 4-5 (23 January 2016)

    Undisputedly one of the best premier league games till date, this game from last season saw many breathtaking moments from the 92nd-minute leveler for the canaries(Norwich city) which brought the score line back to the level term to 4-4, to the 96th-minute goal from none other than Adam Lallana that won the game for Liverpool with the scoreline 4-5.

    Arsenal vs Newcastle United 7-3 (29 December 2012)

    A game that saw 6 different goal-scorers despite a hat-trick from the 'speedy Gonzalez' of the premier league i.e. Theo Walcott, went on to churn out 10 stupendous goals.

    West Bromwich Albion vs Manchester United 5-5 (19 May 2013)

    A highly contested game that saw the end of the SAF reign over Manchester united. Sir Alex Ferguson(SAF) bid adieu to the footballing world with this particular game marking the end of the season and the end of his 26-year long managerial career with the red devils. The premier league trophy for the red devils and a hat-trick for WBA's forward Lukaku made the occasion a happy one for both the sides.

    Middlesbrough vs Manchester City 8-1 (11 May 2008)

    Yepp you read that right, its Middlesbrough who netted 8 times against the mighty Manchester City, though not so mighty at that time. Middlesbrough ran riot against a hapless Man city side with Afonso Alves bagging a hat-trick with a 90th-minute stunner.

    One of the greatest rivalries of our time the North London Derby has always been an exciting affair among football lovers. The emotions run really high when it comes to this particular fixture. This fiercely contested game saw 9 goals with one side edging past the other by only one goal.

    Chelsea vs Sunderland 7-2 (16 January 2010)

    Braces from both Anelka and Lampard with three other goals coming from Ballack, Malouda and Ashley Cole were more than enough to overpower clueless Black cats. Sunderland netted twice to make the scoreline look a bit respectful if not outright disastrous.

    The most recent game on this list saw the hat-trick count in Premier League reaching to 300 as Lukaku bagged his 2nd hat-trick of the season. Bournemouth tried to stage a comeback when they scored twice after coming from the break but late goals from Lukaku and Ross Barkley killed the game with Everton taking all the three points with a crushing scoreline of 6-3.

    Manchester United vs Arsenal 8-2 (28 August 2011)

    Dubbed as the most brutal game in the history of Premier League in terms of scoreline, this game saw TWO GIANTS of the premier league go head to head at the old Trafford. What followed next left a lifetime scar on the hearts of Arsenal fans. Manchester united mauled Arsenal in the most brutal way possible with Wayne Rooney scoring some amazing goals.
