It turns out that after a long era of depicting the romanticized magical (sometimes unreal) love on the celluloid, Bollywood’s new fixation is the concept of unrequited love.
So this curious case of the 'Ek tarfa Pyaar', is the adaptation of the 2014 Chetan Bhagat novel of the same name, "Half girlfriend". Sadly, the trailer looks like an edited version of the previous movies done by its leading cast, Arjun Kapoor, and Shraddha Kapoor. Though Arjun impresses us with his attempt to try a new accent (and not playing a north Indian again), but Shraddha continues to be of no added value to the screen other than her glamorous and sassy avatar.
The trailer does have some quite interesting dialogues to throw some light on the definition and confusion about the concept of Half Girlfriend but doesn’t lead to much expectations or excitement. Thankfully, Vikrant Massey who plays the role of an another small towner and friend of the male lead Madhav has surely got his character right. He looks promising with his accent (which does not sound fake), dialogue delivery and definitely a treat for the eyes.
The movie has been directed by Mohit Suri and as seen in the trailer, his camera has captured landscapes of Delhi and New York streets pretty well. Visually, Half Girlfriend is a good looking film, but we aren't sure if it could be a strong enough factor to like and recommend this movie.
The trailer ends with a beautiful track sung by Arijit Singh, but the lyrics leave us a little confused about being stuck up and glorifying the 'Ek tarfa Pyaar'. Anyhow, the song might end up being on our repeat playlist, thanks to the addictive melody and Arijit's magical voice.
Half Girlfriend's first trailer looks like a fan made video of Ek Villain, Ok Jaanu and 2 States put together with a new soundtrack and change of location. But it is a matter of big question whether this "Dosti se thoda sa zyada and boyfriend se kafi kam" story can live up to the expectations of 2 states and engage its audience with the story and the chemistry of this new lead cast.
